Akita Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

She may have been named for the coldest month of the year, but February's fabled warmth melts the hearts of everyone who meets her. Despite her inauspicious start in life, she's sweeter than sweet and extremely loving, eagerly showering her foster mom with 'Eskimo' kisses and rubbing contentedly against her legs like a cat! At a strong and muscular 54 pounds, she LOVES to play, whether it's fetch with a ball or with her soft, squeaky toys, which she shreds with delight. Thriving on praise and attention, she now knows her 'come', 'sit', 'down', 'stay', 'drop it', 'leave it' and 'off' commands, loves rides in the car, and, while not fond of ... In her eagerness to meet the people and other dogs she passes on her walks, friendly February barks and pulls strenuously on her leash, and is working to improve this behavior. Now, in her search for the ideal fur-ever home, this most loving of ladies requires one to continue her leash training in exchange for an endless supply of 'Eskimo' kisses and eternal devotion. February has lots of energy%A0and would do best in a home with another dog ages 3-8, one who will make a nice playmate for her, and companion for her when her people are away.%A0 A family who is home more often then not, will be the best fit for her! PIease Read Before Adopting an Akita in Colorado
Akita Dogs can make good pets in Colorado if they match your IifestyIe. The Akita Inu, or Japanese Akita, is a large Spitz-type breed of dog. Akitas are intelligent, companionable animals and make excellent guard dogs. Akitas are willful and need firm training. Akitas are protective of children in their own families, but may be aggressive toward outsiders and should be supervised with small kids. Akitas may bite if provoked; they need to be treated with gentleness and respect. Akitas can live in an apartment but do need sufficient exercise; they do best with a large yard.
