Animal ID: A1581383Buddy (male)

Akita Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive

Buddy is a 3yr old Shepherd/Akita mix he is 42lbs. He was brought to the shelter as a stray. Like so many stray Florida dogs, Buddy is heart worm positive, but it barely slows him down! Buddy is a sweet boy that loves to chase his foster brothers and sister across the yard and end his day parked next to you on the couch showering you with kisses. He even enjoys careful play with his foster kitty sister! Buddy does not care for unfamiliar male dogs, but with a slow and careful introduction does well with other male dogs in the home. (As I'm writing this he is wrestling with his foster brother in the living room!) Buddy takes treats very ... (Read More)gently and has shown no food aggression while in his foster home. He prefers his bones pre-softened (or pre-slobbered, we're honestly not quite sure) and keeps a stash of soft squeaky toys in his crate that he loves to snuggle and play with. Buddy is being crate trained and is doing very well, when he first got out of the shelter he did not like being in his crate at all (but who could blame him). He would cry until we turned and left the TV on for him, but now he is fine without it, even spending down time relaxing in the crate with the door open. His foster parents continue to work on basic commands but Buddy does know 'sit', 'stay','down' and 'no'. He is looking for his forever home and will make a loyal and loving addition to any family! He is currently undergoing his heartworm treatment, but will be available for meet and greets at his foster home. (Less)

Akita    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Neutered, Needs Vaccinations, Fearful/Anxious

I have a 8 year old pure breed Akita that has been with us since he was 8 weeks old. He is very sweet but extremely anxious when it storms or when he is left alone. He is passive and very sweet and great with kids and adults. My son has severe asthma and allergies to the dog and we recently moved up north to see if it improved but at this point- we need to find Keto a new home When we are at work/school Keto prefers his crate. He rarely barks and is always willing to lay his head on your lap to be petted. :)

PIease Read Before Adopting an Akita in Florida
Akita Dogs can make good pets in Florida if they match your IifestyIe. The Akita Inu, or Japanese Akita, is a large Spitz-type breed of dog. Akitas are intelligent, companionable animals and make excellent guard dogs. Akitas are willful and need firm training. Akitas are protective of children in their own families, but may be aggressive toward outsiders and should be supervised with small kids. Akitas may bite if provoked; they need to be treated with gentleness and respect. Akitas can live in an apartment but do need sufficient exercise; they do best with a large yard.
