Rescue Me ID: 16-04-11-00398River (male)
River is 1-2 years old. He has been neutered, up to date on vaccinations, tested negative to heartworms, he is on flea and heartworm prevention. He came to our rescue as a stray. When in foster care with us he growled at every male he came in contact with. He never tried biting them but growled. He howled constantly and wanted to be inside right next to you. As the weeks went on he wasn't howling and the growling had stopped once he got used to the men in foster care. A family we know well wanted to adopt River. They adopted him and attempted to work with him but after 3 weeks they brought him back. He couldn't get used to the male in the home. He is back in his original foster care and he has made huge strides. He no longer growls at the men here at all, he does extremely well with the other 4 dogs there, he hasn't bothered cats and he has been around my children (1 and 5) without being on a leash but he would do better in a childless home. River is enjoying being outside now that the weather is warm and loves having playmates. River really needs a home that has people with patience. He needs time to warm up to people. Having other dogs for playmates would make the transition easier. River really is a loving dog. He just needs a home with women in particular. (Less)

Animal ID: 481Daisey Mae (female)
Daisey Mae came to us from Save A Paw Safe Haven in Kokomo, IN due to owners having personal issues that needed resolved. She i a little over 2 years old. She is a gentle giant, but would do best in a home with no children. We believe she has had a bad experience with children in the past and it has reflected her views of them now. When Daisey arrived at the rescue she had a hole in her upper lip from a previous wound resulting from a dog fight while in the care of SAPSH. It has healed marvelously after antibiotics and her hair even grew back over it. Daisey is other dog selective, well actually we haven't been able to fnd a dog yet that suites her, so we would say she needs to be in a home with no other dogs or cats. It was noted by the previous rescue that she is other dog aggressive, which would explain why she had a hole in her lip from a fight.. She is wonderful with all adults she has met though. She loves to go for car rides. She loves to be brushed and she enjoys going for walks. Daisey is spayed, has current vaccinations, current preventatives, is micro chipped, and heartworm tested negative. Her adoption fee is $150.00 (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-03-02-00441Sophie (female)
Sophie is very loving and loyal. She needs room to run and be a dog. I have a fenced in yard and she longs to run so much that she jumps my fence if not tied up. I hate to see her unhappy and want her to go somewhere she can run. She is good with kids but does get anxious with a lot of loud noises. Can be timid of certain people. This mainly seems to be with men but is not aggressive. She loves to play. She was fixed and had her shots in August '15. Not registered.

Akita Dogs can make good pets in Indiana if they match your IifestyIe. The Akita Inu, or Japanese Akita, is a large Spitz-type breed of dog. Akitas are intelligent, companionable animals and make excellent guard dogs. Akitas are willful and need firm training. Akitas are protective of children in their own families, but may be aggressive toward outsiders and should be supervised with small kids. Akitas may bite if provoked; they need to be treated with gentleness and respect. Akitas can live in an apartment but do need sufficient exercise; they do best with a large yard.
