|Rescue Me ID: 16-07-08-00508Polaris (male)|
Polaris is a 3 year old Akita mix that was found abandoned tied to a stop sign in Marion County. Polaris is completely housetrained and has wonderful house manners. He knows most basic commands, and can shake with both paws. He is super sweet and love love loves affection. Car rides are always fun and he is an excellent rider. He walks well on a leash and he has been worked off leash and has always stays right with his foster mom. He understands rules and boundaries and is loyal to those he knows. However needs time to warm up to strangers. But once you are a part of his "crew"; he is the absolute most loving and loyal dog you could ever own. He enjoys being around other dogs, but can be selective on his fellow canine buddies. NO CATS. His current foster home does not have children but he loves when the neighborhood children come to visit him. Polaris is looking to be someone's right hand man and join a family who will return the love he has to give. He does have some separation anxiety when left at home for hours, so this is something to be considered. He is crate trained now, this is said in such way because he used to get extremely stressed in the kennel but this is not an issue any longer. He is neutered, fully vaccinated, and is due for a hw test in August however has been receiving monthly flea and hw treatments. Adoption fee is $100. For more information on Polaris, please email Cherie@mistyeyes.org or call 317-858-8022 currently located in Indianapolis, Indiana. (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 16-03-02-00441Sophie (female)|
Sophie is very loving and loyal. She needs room to run and be a dog. I have a fenced in yard and she longs to run so much that she jumps my fence if not tied up. I hate to see her unhappy and want her to go somewhere she can run. She is good with kids but does get anxious with a lot of loud noises. Can be timid of certain people. This mainly seems to be with men but is not aggressive. She loves to play. She was fixed and had her shots in August '15. Not registered.

Akita Dogs can make good pets in Indiana if they match your IifestyIe. The Akita Inu, or Japanese Akita, is a large Spitz-type breed of dog. Akitas are intelligent, companionable animals and make excellent guard dogs. Akitas are willful and need firm training. Akitas are protective of children in their own families, but may be aggressive toward outsiders and should be supervised with small kids. Akitas may bite if provoked; they need to be treated with gentleness and respect. Akitas can live in an apartment but do need sufficient exercise; they do best with a large yard.
