I adopted Bear from our animal shelter as a puppy. He has the best personality. Non-aggressive towards other dogs, but will defend himself if he's being bullied. Fine around cats unless they run. Good with people, very affectionate. I had him at home but he really needed more space to run, so we put him up on the farm with horses, cows and the other farm dog who he charmed. The issue with Bear is that whenever there are cows getting ready to be born, we have to tie him up for the whole time. We don't feel the calves are safe, although he's never hurt them. Just very tempted. I want Bear to go to a good home where he will have lots of room to ... (Read More)run. If he's in a backyard, his owner will have to insure he can't crawl or climb out. He is an escape artist. This is Bear with his sister, Mae.He is the brindle dog, Mae is the black one. Mae is not for sale. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting an Akita in Kentucky
Akita Dogs can make good pets in Kentucky if they match your IifestyIe. The Akita Inu, or Japanese Akita, is a large Spitz-type breed of dog. Akitas are intelligent, companionable animals and make excellent guard dogs. Akitas are willful and need firm training. Akitas are protective of children in their own families, but may be aggressive toward outsiders and should be supervised with small kids. Akitas may bite if provoked; they need to be treated with gentleness and respect. Akitas can live in an apartment but do need sufficient exercise; they do best with a large yard.
