|Animal ID: 009Duke (male)|
Duke is a 15 year old Shepherd/Akita. When I got him into rescue he had spent his entire life in a 6x9 with a dogloo. He took treat from me and leaned in hard....a sign of trust. He had never been vetted and was intact. He was also heartworm positive. We have helped Duke transiton into a wonderful, playful, indoor pet. He is now neutered, heartworm negative, fully vaccinated, walks well on a leash, loves to play in the yard and loves green beans!! We have helped Duke lose 23lbs since intake back in January. With this transformation Duke is loving life in his foster home with 3 other furry-mates. He is looking for a fur-ever home, someone who understands his quirks and silliness. He is good with adults, children and cats he doesn't react to. He loves to sleep in his crate and lick a garment of the owner. :) Duke is really an amazing dog. Even at 15 he has no health issues or ailments. He has many years to come. Is he your new best friend?? (Less)

|Rescue Me ID: 16-02-07-00625Kierkegaard (male)|
Hi, I'm Kierkegaard! I'm a 9 year old Akita mix. A seasoned, yet still very active 9 year old;). Volunteers keep telling me how beautiful my auburn coat is, and how handsome my face is, I'm just being me. I'm super housetrained and kennel trained. My foster mom hasn't heard a peep out of me yet. Akitas are very very smart, so I'm already learning new tricks! I love being snuggly and cuddly. I am very relaxed at home and love to sleep, however an occasional hike does me just fine as well. I'm dog friendly, kid friendly, pretty much haven't met a stranger yet. Maybe if you're a cat, the staff would like to test us out first, but other than that, I love everyone! If you're looking for a laid back, easy going, gentle giant, I'm your man! Kierkegaard's adoption fee is $150 and includes: Neuter, heartworm test (negative), deworming, microchip, a session with a trainer at a discounted rate, a wellness exam, a fecal test & an offer of pet healthcare insurance for 30 days. Interested? Please visit DogsbyDebin.com for an adoption application. Thank you!application. Thank you! (Less)

Akita Dogs can make good pets in Missouri if they match your IifestyIe. The Akita Inu, or Japanese Akita, is a large Spitz-type breed of dog. Akitas are intelligent, companionable animals and make excellent guard dogs. Akitas are willful and need firm training. Akitas are protective of children in their own families, but may be aggressive toward outsiders and should be supervised with small kids. Akitas may bite if provoked; they need to be treated with gentleness and respect. Akitas can live in an apartment but do need sufficient exercise; they do best with a large yard.
