Rescue Me ID: 16-12-05-00363audi (male)

Akita Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

My boy Audi is a German Shepherd Japanese Akita mix, he is one and a half years old and he is in need of a loving individual who can temporarily house him for a week to a month. He is fear aggressive and is not always welcoming to new people unless they have ample treats. He is a rescue that i adopted when he was one year one month. I do not know any of his early puppy history as far as his previous homes, nor do I know any information about his parents. I am in a situation where I am being forced to give him up immediately because I am currently living with my parents and they do not want him here because my brother and Audi dont get along, ... (Read More)and they dont have time to train or work with him to get past his behavior issues. He has nipped a few people who have come into the house unannounced as well and my parents are not willing to have him scare off visitors. He has not broken skin or drawn blood. He does do well when properly introduced to strangers outside of the home and is completely loyal and loving when he grows to respect you. He lacks training and socialization from birth til I adopted him so he does have fear and anxiety based aggression where he barks and lunges to scare off strangers and I have been training him to curb this behavior but I think it has been accidentally been trained into him since I'm unable to control every aspect of his interactions here at my parents. I DO NOT plan on giving him up and I AM NOT willing to take him to a shelter where I believe non-Shepherd humans will deem him unfit to be adopted. I WILL NOT let my boy be put into a situation where he no longer receives the proper love training and human understanding that only German Shepherd owners can provide. I am in a very crappy situation, I will be homeless with my boy if I dont find him a foster home by the end of the day, and my parents are very stern about me giving him up to a shelter which i refuse. I NEED HELP!!! Please, if you are able to foster my little boy for a week to a month until I can save enough to get a place or if you know any shelters, organizations, trainers, kennels, anyone or anything that could help me place my boy until I can get my feet on the ground and get him back email or call me asap. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!! Dan Gerhart 215-380-0834 dnlgerhart@yahoo.com (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting an Akita in Pennsylvania
Akita Dogs can make good pets in Pennsylvania if they match your IifestyIe. The Akita Inu, or Japanese Akita, is a large Spitz-type breed of dog. Akitas are intelligent, companionable animals and make excellent guard dogs. Akitas are willful and need firm training. Akitas are protective of children in their own families, but may be aggressive toward outsiders and should be supervised with small kids. Akitas may bite if provoked; they need to be treated with gentleness and respect. Akitas can live in an apartment but do need sufficient exercise; they do best with a large yard.
