Rescue Me ID: 14-09-09-00605Nala (female)

Akita    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy
Health: Spayed, Needs Vaccinations

Looking for an Akita rescue or adopter. She just loves kids! She lights up when they are around. She was surrendered to the shelter and was found to be heartworm positive when tested at the shelter. She will come with treatment to treat the heartworms (slow kill). She has already started taking the meds for this. Other than that, she is very healthy. She is spayed, has all shots and a microchip. She has a white heart on her chest. She was meant to be saved from the shelter and is meant to find the perfect family. Open your heart and home today and help us save more like her. Beautiful girl

Rescue Me ID: 14-08-01-00183Wonder (female)

Akita Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Wonder is a very sweet dog - 44lbs, so she must have a small breed mixed in with her. Her face looks like a German Shepherd, but her tail looks like Chow / Akita. She does not do well with other dogs at all, so I took her from the person who rescued her from a shelter (she had another dog). My travel schedule is such that I can't spend enough time with Wonder - and I can't have friends who have dogs watch her. I'm trying to avoid taking her to a shelter, but I just can't care for her anymore.

Rescue Me ID: 14-07-20-00071Beau (male)

Akita Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Beau is a super sweet dog, very affectionate and 'chill' in the house, and extremely good on a leash outside (no pulling!). He kissed my cat on first greeting and is happy to see visitors in the home as well as people and their dogs on his dog walks. He is attentive, but goes and lies down, too. A beautiful Akita/Boxer mix, he has the Akita trait of needing to be 'top dog,' so he will do best in a home where that's the case! He is a beautiful, loving animal, very healthy, gentle, enthusiastic, affectionate, 73 lbs., neutered, up-to-date on all shots, etc. Knows 'sit' and looks like Scooby Doo!

PIease Read Before Adopting an Akita in North Carolina
Akita Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The Akita Inu, or Japanese Akita, is a large Spitz-type breed of dog. Akitas are intelligent, companionable animals and make excellent guard dogs. Akitas are willful and need firm training. Akitas are protective of children in their own families, but may be aggressive toward outsiders and should be supervised with small kids. Akitas may bite if provoked; they need to be treated with gentleness and respect. Akitas can live in an apartment but do need sufficient exercise; they do best with a large yard.
