|Animal ID: 1947Baxter (male)|
Volunteer update 11/20: Baxter has been at the shelter since 11/3. That's a long time for a dog to stay at the shelter. He needs rescue or adoption NOW! We've had Baxter out of his kennel several times with other dogs. He always behaves nicely around other dogs on leash and no aggression has been noted. When in his kennel he does act out sometimes when other dogs are led past his kennel. You can see from the condition of his ears from fly bites that he has had a very rough life and received little to no care. Baxter would love to have another chance at life and have the opportunity to know what it is like to be loved and cared for. He needs pledges to help encourage a rescue group to save him. Please share him for rescue or adoption NOW!! Washington, NC: Baxter came into the shelter on 11/3 as a stray from the River Road area of Washington. He is an approx. 4 year old Akita/shepherd mixed fellow. Baxter seems friendly and well-behaved. He has some significant injury to his ears from fly bites. Let's find him a wonderful loving new home! Available for adoption on 11/8. For more info email the shelter staff at email@example.com. Always refer to the petango or ID number! Adoption fee is $75 which includes spay/neuter, p/d shot, bordetella, microchip and deworming. Approved 501c3 Rescues can pull for $20 which includes p/d shot, bordetella, microchip and deworm. Some volunteer assistance for 501c3 rescues. Please refer to ID number when calling or emailing shelter. ***PLEASE NOTE*** We will update as soon as updates are available. This shelter has a very small but very busy staff, so please DO NOT CALL for updates on dogs. If their Petango link is active, then they are still in the facility. While we welcome interest from all rescue groups, the shelter staff and volunteers CANNOT arrange long-distance transports or boarding. No credit card adoptions or rescues. Must be cash or check. Adopters must appear in person at shelter to sign adoption paperwork and pay fee, then the dog will be taken to a Beaufort Co. vet for spay/neuter. Rescue groups can pull for $20 but it is your responsibility to arrange pull, transport, and/or boarding. |Rescue Me ID: 16-10-03-00304Belle (female)|
Belle is a wonderful dog. She is very protective of her owner and has shown some aggression with new people in her life. She is extremely smart, well trained and just needs an alpha human to guide her. The owner has relocated and because of a new job can no longer care for her.

|Rescue Me ID: 16-09-30-00056Hank (male)|
This animal is available to licensed rescue groups only. Please do not enquire unless with a licensed rescue group. Hank is a good boy with his people, very loyal typical of his breed. He had basic obedience training at 3-4 months old, and socialization. He recently showed aggression and we are unfortunately unable to keep Hank with us due to cats and small dog in household. Hank loves to run and has a lot of acreage for this on private property away from any traffic. Hank has recently been neutered. This should minimize his aggression. To have him completely safe and other small animals protected, Hank probably should be fenced.

Akita Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The Akita Inu, or Japanese Akita, is a large Spitz-type breed of dog. Akitas are intelligent, companionable animals and make excellent guard dogs. Akitas are willful and need firm training. Akitas are protective of children in their own families, but may be aggressive toward outsiders and should be supervised with small kids. Akitas may bite if provoked; they need to be treated with gentleness and respect. Akitas can live in an apartment but do need sufficient exercise; they do best with a large yard.
